Interlochen Arts Academy

Interlochen Arts Academy is located in Interlochen, MI and is a coeducational fine arts boarding high school for grades 9-12. Interlochen prepares young artists for rewarding careers and fosters academic excellence. The academic faculty use the strengths of the students as creative learners to develop greater appreciation for academic subjects. The students are in class for most of the day and receive accelerated academic instruction and intensive artistic studies. The arts and academic instructors work together to provide a holistic approach to learning. This prepares the students for the rigors of the world’s most competitive colleges and universities. There are courses that teach French and Spanish and a program that helps students to learn English as a second language. With the help of the counseling staff, students can meet graduation requirements and prepare for college. They are given help in construction of resumes, repertoire lists, and standardized testing. Their senior year the students receive help in completing their college application deadlines.

Interlochen Arts Academy offers the following major areas of study: comparative arts, creative writing, dance, motion picture arts music, theatre arts and visual arts.

Students at Interlochen have a very busy schedule but they find time to have fun and develop friendships that last a lifetime. The students are known to have deep conversations at dinner, impromptu jam sessions, walk through the woods, weekly coffeehouse performances and organized off campus trips. With the support of friends and staff, students find time for self-discovery and growth. They find a place where they can be themselves. The campus provides for a safe, residential setting where students learn self-reliance and independence.

Summer Arts Camp program can be one, two, three, four and six weeks long. Most programs happen between the middle of June to the first of August. The campers can enjoy several performances, readings and art exhibitions each week. The campers stay in a cabin which is adjacent to the large lake. Campers have their own private beach, tennis courts, division headquarters and laundry. When not in class campers can attend concerts, view a Gallery exhibit, and attend co-recreational activities.
