Drug and Alcohol Rehab

Some teens mistakenly believe that alcohol is less addictive than drugs. The rehabilitation for addictions to either is very long and painful. Of course it is better to never use illegal drugs at all but there is help for those who have developed an addiction to drugs or alcohol. There are two widely known organizations that work with addictive behavior. Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous the basis for each of these is very similar. They both rely on group support to keep their fellow group members clean and sober. The success of these types of programs is manifest by the number of organizations that exist and the number of people that they have helped. Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; they are self-supporting through their own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Their primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. Narcotics Anonymous provides a recovery process and support network inextricably linked together. One of the keys to NA’s success is the therapeutic value of addicts working with other addicts. Members share their successes and challenges in overcoming active addiction and living drug-free productive lives through the application of the principles contained within the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of NA. These principles are the core of the Narcotics Anonymous recovery program.

Peer Pressure

A huge reason for teens to act defiant and get in trouble is peer pressure. Many teens have a strong desire to fit in. If they don't have many friends and a group takes them in, the child may feel like they owe it to the group to do whatever they are told to do. Even if it goes against what the teen has been taught at home, they will likely do it at any cost because they want to please their friends. When the behavior gets out of control, the best way to correct it is to get the teen away from the bad influence of the friends and put them in an environment where they can be influenced in a positive way.

This pressure leads to children entangled in a web of substance abuse, pornography, sexual promiscuity, defiance at school and many other negative choices. The child with a desperate need to fit in does not realize the life long effects of their actions. If the course is not altered the youth may never be able to recover from the effects of their rebellion. Everyone knows someone who has made poor choices as a youth and are currently living a life that is less than their full potential.
