Fishburne Military School
Fishburne Military School is located in Waynesboro, VA and is an all-male, college preparatory school just minutes from the beautiful Shenandoah Mountains. The school was founded in 1879 and is a family-oriented military academy focusing on educating the young men to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in college and life.
The cadets enroll in the rigorous academic program combined with superior athletics and they participate in the Corps of Cadets and JROTC. Fishburne offers a rolling admissions policy allowing parents the opportunity to submit an Application for Admission at any point during the year for their son. There is a summer school program available for cadets who need to catch up or get ahead on their studies.
Fishburne has earned the Army’s coveted “Honor Unit with Distinction” status which means they can nominate any qualified cadet directly to the Army, Navy and Air Force academies. The military style education developed in each young man s strong character and leadership skills. The character traits that the cadets learn are: accountability, responsibility, honor, discipline, respect for one self and others and pride.
Waynesboro is a thriving city and provides the cadets with a safe and enjoyable location to learn and grow. Fishburne Military School has been listed on the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places since 1984. The school is located 1.5 hours from Richmond, VA and 2.5 hours from Washington, D.C.
To enhance the learning process the cadets at Fishburne use iPads. The iPads are fantastic tools in the learning process and the students will use them once they arrive at college. Fishburne also has SMART boards that are used in the classroom. SMART boards provide a unique interactive learning medium for the teachers to use and view web sites at the same time the cadets are using predetermined Apps that are installed on the iPads. Students are also required to have books loaded onto their iPad and the homework assignments are submitted using the iPad.
Athletics at Fishburne are for cadets who would life to channel their physical energy, stay fit and learn valuable qualities such as teamwork, self-discipline and good sportsmanship. The athletic department’s motto is “Winning the right way.” They believe that the students come first. Cadet military training is vital to the Fishburne experience and fosters self-discipline, patriotism, teamwork and respect for tradition. As cadets work together toward common goals they will also learn how to deal with victory, defeat, adversity, fatigue, criticism, praise and pressures of responsibility within the team.
