Christchurch School

Christchurch School

Christchurch School has 125-acres of campus living and is located on the Rappahannock River and the Chesapeake Bay in VA. The bay and river offer many recreational activities as well as research, marine and environmental sciences. The school is co-educational and with the use of the river, the mission of the school is to help students discover their infinite value. They also feel that students need a different kind of education in this ever changing world. The students need to know themselves and their strengths and to work with different groups of people. For the student to go on and be successful in college and life, Christchurch teaches a set of exit skills. These skills give students the opportunity for growth and leadership. This is achieved through the academic program as well as athletics. Because of the many opportunities available for the students, they come to know themselves, how to make good choices, and how to think. Then they realize their purpose and identity.

Founded in 1921 by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia and with the help of Bishop William Cabell Brown, Christchurch School became a place to educate local children at a reasonable cost. The day the school opened it doors they had several local students and ten boarders. The school has grown over time and in 1972 included girls. The Learning Skills Program began in 1983 and has helped many students to find academic success. In 1975 international students were welcomed, bringing diversity and providing a well-rounded experience for all students. As an Episcopal school, students of all faiths are welcomed and encouraged to express their beliefs. These students will become familiar with the Christian faith through worship and theology classes. The goal is to have all students learn to think, participate and reflect for themselves to develop their own moral standards in this busy world.
