Foxcroft Academy is located in Foxcroft, ME and is one of the oldest private schools in the United States. It is a coeducational school for students in grades 9-12. Founded in 1823, Foxcroft Academy offers comprehensive college preparatory courses, technical education programs and a four year forest management program. The school is named after Colonel Joseph Ellery Foxcroft and during the early days the school was known as a poor man’s college, because it brought the opportunity for higher education to the pioneer families. Foxcroft was the first school to be chartered after Maine became a state. Foxcroft Academy is a school that helps build integrity, character, and skills necessary for their life.
The academics at Foxcroft Academy have rigorous learning standards for students to meet and expect the students to achieve success. The combination of course credits, learning standards and community service, help instill in the students the knowledge, skills and habits of mind necessary to their development. With the schools standards based program, it gives the students more responsibility and parents, teachers and administrators help with their path toward graduation.
The guiding principles of the athletic program at Foxcroft, are the physical condition of each student to develop their mental and spiritual well being, understanding the need for exercise and to have life long health goals. Sports provide a unique opportunity to not only build character but friendships to last a life time. Many of the faculty not only teach in the classroom, but are coaches as well. With the variety of roles for the faculty to be involved in, makes Foxcroft unique and special and adds to the quality of the whole Foxcroft experience. Foxcroft has pride in their athletic program and sportsmanship is very important. Some of the sports students may be involved in are: football, cross country, wrestling, baseball, basketball, softball, tennis, field hockey, track, and cheering.
Foxcroft has a rich environment that is intellectually challenging in and out of the classroom. Students come from all over the United States and the world, making it a diverse community with different points of view. Foxcroft is interested in the development of the whole person. There are many clubs and activities available for students to participate in. Some of these would be: drama club, musical theatre, international club, French club, Spanish club, math team, chess club, student council, Latin club, jazz and concert bank, outdoor adventure club, Kungfu club and more.
