Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy is located in La Canada Flintridge, CA and is an all girl Catholic, Dominican, college-preparatory school for grades 9-12. They believe in educating young women for a life of faith, integrity and truth.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy was founded by the Dominican Sister of Mission San Jose in 1931. It was designed in 1927 as a resort hotel on the crest of the scenic San Rafael Hills, the resort hotel overlooks the San Gabriel Valley and the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Unfortunately the hilltop resort was deemed to expensive to maintain they closed shortly after the on set of the Great Depression. At the same time, the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose were making plans to build a girl’s school and convent on land that was purchased in Sierra Madre. But after hearing about the resort’s closure, the Archbishop Cantwell contacted the Sisters and suggested they purchase the resort, which they did. Two weeks later the school opened with 200 students who were enrolled in grades 1 through 12. Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy is dedicated to preparing young women for college and life. FSHA offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, outstanding visual and performing arts program and a dynamic campus ministry and service program. They offer the opportunity for the girls to participate in clubs, and athletics. Young women from around the world attend FSHA and they bring with them various cultures and faith traditions and FSHA commits to educate them in their community environment. Everyone at FSHA endeavors to create a community rooted in the ministerial vision of Jesus. In this type of community, the students thrive and are supported and encouraged as they mature. FSHA is committed to empowering young women to building a better world through compassionate service, and always seeking integrity and truth throughout her life.

The athletic department at FSHA has many athletic activities that are a vital part of the educational experience. There are more than 20 varsity and junior varsity teams in basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, diving, tennis track and field, volleyball and water polo. The equestrian team competes in the Interscholastic Equestrian League.

The arts at FSHA provide a positive working environment for all students to express themselves freely and creatively. Some of the arts that are available are: dance, music, fine arts, theatre, video production, graphic design, stagecraft or ceramics. There is also an after-school arts program where student can audition. This would include rehearsal for the fall musical and theatre production held in the spring.
