The Hun School of Princeton

The Hun School of Princeton is located in Princeton, NJ and is a coeducational school for grades 9-12. The foundation for The Hun School of Princeton was laid in 1914 by Dr. John Gale Hun, a professor of Mathematics at Princeton University. He had success working with and tutoring his own students and decided to open the Princeton Math School, a school that was dedicated to preparing student for entrance into the top colleges in the nation. The name was later changed to The Princeton Tutoring School to include all areas of college-preparation work. In 1920 the school soon outgrew its in-town quarters and moved to accommodate 150 boarding students. In 1925 the school was renamed The Hun School of Princeton and prospered for twenty years under the direction of John Hun. The granddaughter of John Hun stated that, “If a student had an intellect, but didn’t know how to use it, Grandfather would give him the individual attention necessary to prosper. Sometimes he was even willing to pay their education bills.”

The Hun School of Princeton is very dedicated to the stewardship of the environment and the sustainability program is dedicated to recycling, energy consumption and generation, land use and landscape, transportation and food.

Some of the sports available at The Hun School of Princeton are: cross country, football, field hockey, soccer, tennis, fencing, Ice hockey, basketball, swimming, track, baseball, softball, Lacrosse and golf.

The arts program gives students the opportunity to learn and develop and understanding and appreciations for the arts within their own and others cultures Music courses include chamber music performance, jazz band, and choral performance. Visual arts offer architectural drawing, ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, three-dimensional art, video production and woodworking. Dance Company offers classes in jazz, lyrical and ballet each fall and spring. There are two performances each year and everyone is welcome regardless of their proficiency level. The theatre department offers three major productions each year, a comedy in the fall, a winter musical and a drama or a classically-based play in the spring.

Hun has many clubs and activities for all ages and can be found playing board games, building entire worlds in the popular online game of Minecraft, create a series of comics based on fictitious character and adventures, community service projects and more.
