Concord Academy is located in Concord, MA and is a coeducational school for grades 9-12. Founded in 1922 the school was first for grades 1-12 and only for girls. In the early years the classes were small until 1949 when the school grew into an independent high school, housing more boarders than day students. Concord was considered to be the finest independent secondary school for girls in the country from the years 1963-1971. In the year 1971 Concord Academy became a coeducational school. Through the years the Academy has been committed to the community and service. The Chapel was renovated and 13.6 acres were added to the campus.
Concord Academy provides a caring and challenging atmosphere where a student can discover and develop their talents. The diversity of the school helps students to have respect for others and share their ideas. When a student learns to balance their individual freedom with responsibility and service within the community, they are then guided by a covenant of common trust.
With the added 13.6 acres to the campus, this made it possible for the construction of two new athletic fields, a baseball diamond, tennis courts and a building to continue the athletic programs when the weather was uncooperative.
One of the central parts of the Concord Academy curriculum is the Arts. The art studios, media lab, dance studio, music rooms and on the stage often reinforce what the students have learned in the classroom. The music department offers a variety of courses for the students to appreciate and love music, including classical, jazz and popular styles. Concord’s music department also gives students the opportunity to perform in ensembles or groups. There are many dance and theatre productions that the students at Concord can chose to become involved in. The visual arts department teaches students to understand the world through visual art. There is great satisfaction for a student who has created their own art. They also develop an appreciation for the work of other artists from different cultures and backgrounds.
Candid was developed to help Concord students stay in touch. They can learn what is happening on and off campus and the latest news about students, faculty, staff and alumnae. Concord is on twitter, face book, and You Tube.
